WeDo Greek Robots
Can you believe that some historians believe that the first time robots were imagined was way back in Ancient Greece? This week we were inspired by the myth of Talos - a giant metal being that protected the island of Crete. Students created their own "giant robots". They learned to use sensors to wake up the robot. Check out this busy day of building, redesigning, programming, and problem-solving.

Tunnels & Dams
Today we played in the dirt! Students explored the amazing engineering of tunnels and dams. We learned types and techniques as well as some history of the engineering processes. Making models is a great way to explore the challenges involved. Check out our busy day in this short video!

Periscope Perspectives
Third grade faced quite the engineering challenge. After learning about periscope history and design, students were challenged to create their own periscope. Prototypes were put to the test in an exciting periscope obstacle course.

Valentiny Express - The Transportation Company with Heart
Third graders put their engineering skills to the test in this short challenge. Students learned from mistakes as they tested and re-tested designs. The task:design a balloon powered car that can carry as many candy hearts as possible.

Skyscraper Explorations
Wow! What a day. Skyscrapers touch the sky, but what makes them so strong? We faced hurricane force winds in today's exploration.

The Making of Fred's Journey: Behind the scenes
Third graders got a realistic view of all it takes to create a movie! This one day project had kids working hard all day! Students followed directions to create a working construction with a motor, then modified it to show creativity. They developed a scene of the story and using our coding software, programmed the robot (boat) to move and make sounds to compliment their portion of the story. Atlases were used to determine where in the world Fred would visit and they even designed the backgrounds for their scene. Wow! What a busy day! Take a peek at the amazing collaboration that took place for the fun movie.
Fred's Journey!
Fred (the gummy worm) decided to go on a journey sailing around the world. Check out his amazing adventures!

Adaptations of Ocean Animals
It's better down where it's wetter. . . or so they say! Students found out what it would be like to be a sea creature with some hands-on activities. Ocean goggles to see like a fish and communicating with light as we explored bioluminescence.
Slowly Falling
This week's challenge - defy gravity. . . Okay, so not exactly defy - but interfere! Students were to design a way to slow the rolling of a marble. The catch. . . They had 7 minutes and limited supplies. Check out the amazing teamwork! (They begged for additional time - so in the end - it was a 14 minute challenge!)

Coaster Craze
Today engineering teams were "hired" to build a safe coaster the came to a gradual stop as close to the end of the coaster as possible without going over. Of course, they needed to stay within budget and had material constraints! Check it out!
